Development of the MONETA's carbon footprint according to
Scope 1, 2 and 3 in 2016 - 2022 (tCO2e)

We started measuring our carbon footprint for the first time in 2016

We want to achieve carbon neutrality in Scope 1 and 2 by the end of 2026

Carbon footprint

Reducing our carbon footprint is a key activity in our environmental responsibility

First steps

We have been measuring our carbon footprint since 2016. We were one of the first companies in the Czech Republic to start building our own fleet of electric vehicles, contributing to a significant reduction in direct emissions under Scope 1.

In 2017, we set a target to reduce our carbon footprint by 35% by 2020. We already achieved our target in 2018, thanks mainly to electric vehicles in our fleet, green energy purchases and other measures. Overall, we have reduced our carbon footprint by 81.3% by 2022 in Scope 1, 2 and by more than 54.4% including Scope 3 (excluding S3.11).

The calculation of the carbon footprint for 2020 was verified for the first time according to the international standard ISO 14064-1:2018. MONETA continues to perform this verification for each subsequent year's carbon footprint calculation.

In 2021, we released a new ESG strategy and set further targets for reducing our carbon footprint. This includes a commitment to achieving carbon neutrality. At the same time, we have started to analyse our carbon footprint in Scope 3.

How we reduce our carbon footprint

Identifying the activities that contribute most to our carbon footprint has helped us to direct our focus and effort to where it really matters

Electromobility

We have one of the largest fleets of electric vehicles in the Czech Republic. As of today, every third car of our fleet is electric, and more are coming soon.

Renewable energy

We purchase electricity only from renewable sources. Both our headquarters in Prague and Ostrava, including our branches, run purely on green electricity.

Consumption and waste management

We have reduced our water consumption by more than 5 000 m3 since 2016. We are committed to waste separation and recycling, including 100% recycling of coffee capsules.

Digitalisation and reduction of paper consumption

More than 80% of our products and services are provided online. Reduction of paper consumption is paramount to us. In cases where paper in needed, we use recycled paper only.

Paper consumptions in tons per year
2017 | 2018 | 2019 | 2020 | 2021 | 2022
79,5 68,0 63,9 61,3 57,8 8,9

Responsibility of our suppliers

Reducing our own carbon footprint is only a part of the solution. When choosing our suppliers, we use the ESG questionnaire to determine their approach to sustainability. We also firmly believe in supporting local economy, which is why almost 90% of our suppliers are local.

Code of Ethics for Suppliers (PDF, 117 KB)

As part of our ESG Strategy, we have set a target of having 95% of our suppliers assessed by the end of 2025

Innovative environmental projects

We have long supported projects in the field of agriculture, but also innovative projects to protect the environment

Cooperation with the Czech University of Life Sciences

We are partners in the Smart Landscape 2030+ project, in which we participate financially. We also cooperate with experts from the Czech University of Life Sciences on the MONETA Zeleně podcast series.

We have decided to support Czech agriculture through the general partnership of the Farmer of the Year competition. One of the announced categories is the Ecological Farmer of the Year. We have been participating in the competition since 2002.
